Challenge Task - P.E.E Paragraph 

Firstly, pronouns are used in this article to help the writer interact with the readers and consequently engage them in rhetorical questions. This is evident in the phrase ‘think about your own school or organisation.’This helps the writer to prove his point of the necessity of relationships, as by using pronouns to address the reader, he is interacting with them and therefore building a relationship with them. Additionally, adjectives are also used in this article to show the readers people’s opinion of emotions in the past, as well as to describe many other things. This can be seen in the phrase ‘those primitive gremlins, the emotions.’ ‘Primitive’ connotes images of early ancestors and evolution so perhaps could mean uncivilised in this context, and ‘gremlins’ are imaginary creatures so this therefore shows that previously people who used emotions could be regarded as uncivilised creatures  - as it wasn’t considered proper for emotions to be shown. This contrasts with the belief of the writer now - later in the article he describes emotions as ‘essential to reason’ as well as something which ‘assigns value to things’ - hence portraying his true opinion of emotions. Finally, plural nouns are also used frequently in this article to place people in different  groups. Examples of this are when the writer talks about ‘scientists’ and ‘students.’ This is effective as it demonstrates to the reader the importance of relationships because the ‘scientists’ had to work collectively to discover that emotions are ‘essential to reason,’ just like ‘students’ have to work together to build relationships with each other, as well as their teachers.
