The subject of this article is how LGBT life shouldn’t be hidden from children because nothing negative can come from them being exposed to it, despite what some parents might think. I think this article is aimed at parents who are concerned about their children learning about LGBT life because the writer is trying to prove the point that there is nothing wrong with children learning about this, as ‘For a child to be gay merely signifies that they are different in some way and have recognised this difference.’ However, I also think that this article is written for LGBT people who are rightly advocating for more rights and for parents who are completely okay with their children learning about LGBT people and what it means. I know this because the writer describes the irony of Lil Nas X coming out at a time when some parents have been ‘fretting’ about their children learning about the existence of LGBTQ people as ‘delicious’ - therefore suggesting he is actually ridiculing those parents who have conservative views, and promoting his readers to agree with his open views rather than with those on the other side of the argument. Therefore, the purpose of this article is to convince his readers how wrong it would be if we were to prevent children learning about LGBT life. This could lead to children not being able to discover their identity, but even if they did learn about it no harm would come from them learning about other people and the way they live their lives. Basically the benefits of children being educated about LGBT people outweigh the negatives. I like this article because of the way the writer is not afraid to point out the stupidity of the views of those who do not agree with him - referring to his opposers as ‘galaxy brains.’
