Article 5

https://www.educationdive.com/news/teachers-harness-the-power-of-electronic-games-to-teach-the-visually-impair/548862/ The subject of this article is how electronic games are being used in the classroom to help the visually impaired to learn. I think this article is aimed at teachers who have visually-impaired students and want to know how to engage with them in lessons, or visually- impaired individuals who are interested in new technology that is enabling them and people like them to learn in a more effective way. I know this because the article explains how the technology can be used to benefit others, but it also mentions how a new curriculum will have to be constructed by administrators and educators in order to enable the visually-impaired to get the most out of their time in the classroom - which is something that teachers of the visually-impaired would be interested in. The purpose of this article is to help people understand just how games and technology can help the visuall...

Article 4

https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.nytimes.com/2019/01/17/opinion/learning-emotion-education.amp.html The subject of this article is the importance of building relationships with people at school (especially teachers) and how that leads to effective learning. I think that the intended audience is other teachers because it’s written by a teacher who explains that once he showed a ‘whiff of vulnerability’ it changed the atmosphere in his classes and helped his students to be able to relate to him. Knowing that their teacher was ‘just another schmo trying to get through life’ allowed the students to show more compassion and empathy towards him, but it also helped the teacher understand that the emotion is essential to reason: basically, he could no longer be ‘dispassionate’ when it came to teaching students. The purpose of this article is to educate other teachers about what they have to do in order to get their students to engage with them but also to teach them about the necessity of ...

Article 3

https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2019/jul/02/lil-nas-x-coming-out-lgbt-lessons-schools-gay The subject of this article is how LGBT life shouldn’t be hidden from children because nothing negative can come from them being exposed to it, despite what some parents might think. I think this article is aimed at parents who are concerned about their children learning about LGBT life because the writer is trying to prove the point that there is nothing wrong with children learning about this, as ‘For a child to be gay merely signifies that they are different in some way and have recognised this difference.’ However, I also think that this article is written for LGBT people who are rightly advocating for more rights and for parents who are completely okay with their children learning about LGBT people and what it means. I know this because the writer describes the irony of Lil Nas X coming out at a time when some parents have been ‘fretting’ about their children learning about the ex...

Article 2

https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2019/jun/03/children-school-27-years-parents-evenings-pta This article is about a parent who is glad that her youngest child has now finished school, as she felt trapped in the education system having had at least one of her children in school over the past 27 years. I think that the intended audience is other parents who have had children in school for a long time and are bored with it, because I feel like they will be able to empathise with the writer of this article. I know this because she uses satirical phrases like ‘I have done my time’ comparing putting children through the education system with being punished for a crime. The writer wrote this article so that she can openly share her relief with the readers of ‘The Guardian’ but also so that other parents who have or had children in state schools can find collective relief with her. I like this article because the writer takes on a very honest approach and doesn’t hold back her true f...

Article 1

https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2019/jun/19/special-needs-support-school-send-cuts The subject of this article is how people with special needs in the education system are now given less opportunities due to funding cuts caused by the government.  The intended audience is the parents of children with special needs because obviously they care about how well their child is being looked after in a school environment, but also teachers because if they are aware about the budget cuts that SEN kids are facing, then they may try and do everything in their power to help the children.  I know this because the article uses complicated vocabulary e.g. ‘mass academisation’ and therefore I know it’s not aimed at children. The purpose of this article is to educate parents of SEN children about the budget cuts going on in schools as it’s important that they know about it because then they can try and put extra provisions in place for their child. I like this article because I am ...
